Coronado and the beaches surrounding it are popular destinations for Panamanians to enjoy a nice weekend at the beach. The town of Coronado is just about one hour away from Panama City. In Coronado you will find an accommodation for every taste, from residential communities, to modern condominiums, beach houses and small or big hotels and guesthouses. Its atmosphere is calm and serene yet very safe as most places in Panama still are.
Coronado is quite advanced compared to other vacation destinations along the Pacific Coast of Panama since it was the first area to be developed and today has an excellent infrastructure in place. Travelers will find fine restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies, hospitals, banks, retail and hardware stores and many other businesses. From Coronado you have access to many different beaches including Playa Coronado, Playa Gorgona and Playa El Palmar.
Things to do in Coronado Panama
Surfing
Coronado Panama is one of the best places to learn how to surf in Panama. You will find many schools available that offer surfing camps and single lessons. Playa Serena is one the best known beaches in the area.
Golfing
You will find two great 18-hole courses to play golf. The first is located right in the heart of Coronado at the Coronado Luxury Suites Hotel. Designed by Tom Fazio, the course has a lot of old growth, and some great water features. The other one is 20 minutes from Coronado in the Vista Mar, Marina & Oceanfront community, is an 18-hole course designed by J. Michael Poellot.
Hiking at the Coronado Dry Forest Walking Trail
Coronado is home to a section of untouched dry forest. In all of Latin America, only 40% of dry forests remain, the rest have been lost to development.

Picacho Mountain
It is located about 45 minutes away from Coronado.
Overlooking La Laguna de San Carlos this hike is one of the best viewpoints in the region.
Visit El Valle de Anton
This mountain town is a large community with a grocery store, restaurants, and marketplace. El Valle is also part of Panama’s first national preserve created in 1966. There are waterfalls, hiking trails, and an abundance of tourist attractions.
Punta Chame
Punta Chame is a popular windsurfing spot along the Bahia de Chame, just a 40 minute drive away from Coronado. The town of Chame has a bank and a few basic grocery stores and restaurants.

You can drive from Panama City to Coronado via Carretera Interamericana/Carretera Panamericana/Route 1/CA-1. It is about 1 hour and 38 minute drive (88 kms).
