The Chagres Challenge
The Chagres River is a level II-III white water rafting river, known for its clear water and abundant wildlife. The dense tropical forest that surrounds it gives you the opportunity to spot otters, iguanas, monkeys, hawks, toucans, and a variety of fish.
The Chagres Challenge begins at 5:00 AM with a pickup in Panama City. Guests are then transported by 4x4 vehicle to the remote village of San Cristobal. After a light breakfast, the tour starts with a hike on a narrow trail that leads deeper into the jungle to the Piedras River, an affluent of the Chagres. Around 11:00 AM, the exciting 5-hour rafting tour begins. Participants will navigate the virgin jungle of the Chagres River, eventually reaching Madden Lake by 4:30 PM. A delicious meal will be enjoyed along the river's banks. The tour also offers the opportunity to encounter several Embera rainforest tribes. Near Madden Lake, rafts will be towed by an outboard motorboat for approximately half an hour to the nearest road. Guests will then be transported back to the original pickup site, arriving around 7:00 PM.
